Job Profile Summary
Under general direction, this position is responsible for the programming, planning, and schematic design for college-wide renovations, remodels, and new construction projects. Utilizing advanced software such as AutoCAD and Revit as necessary to make presentations to the college community meeting SREF and Building Code requirements. The Facilities Planner’s responsibilities include acting as project manager for FF&E furniture fixtures and equipment projects, and installations. Coordinates and manages moves for college-wide staff. Requires understanding and management of purchasing contracts, communicates with furniture vendors regularly. Liaison for the College as subject matter expert for space utilization and occupancy planning. Coordinates the Capital Improvement process, State inventory reports, Educational Plant Survey and Facilities database submission to the Department of Education. Coordinates the implementation of the interior design and furniture standards as well as the implementation of the signage standards college-wide.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, construction management or related field.
An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Minimum Experience/Training:
Six years of experience in space/occupancy planning required.
Advanced skills in Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit and/or BIM equivalent software
Knowledge of Florida’s building code
Knowledge of ADA code and code compliancy
SREF State Requirement for Educational Facilities application and experience preferred
FF&E expertise and contract management preferred
Department of Education Capital Improvement Plan and Plant Survey knowledge preferred.
Essential Functions:
Weekly - 25%: Develops, executes, and manages project deliverables. Provides project management and support to Broward College Facilities Management as needed including FF&E procurement and installation, programming and schematic design, interior design and signage.
Weekly - 10%: Develops programming based on interviews with college-wide end users and other parties to then develop preliminary schematic designs in AutoCAD, REVIT or equal software. Final schematic design to be used by architectural consultants to develop construction documents.
Weekly - 10%: Responsible for facilities planning, evaluating new space for college use which includes acquisition, new construction, renovation, or remodeling. All under the allowable building codes and SREF compliance codes.
Daily - 10%: Develops and maintains design standards for interior design projects. Manages the interior design process for furniture and equipment for all construction projects; which includes design meetings with campus and vendor, selection process, furniture layouts, purchasing, delivery and installation, and daily site visits.
Weekly - 5%: Develops space standards for faculty and staff. Involves developing standards based on position which will be used in facilities planning for proposing space configurations. Creation of floor plans to reflect standards and develop amenities to ensure productive spaces.
Weekly -5%: Tracks and updates the Facilities Inventory Database based on guidelines established by DOE/SREF. Periodically verifies floor plans to ensure the numbering of all rooms, circulation space, facility numbers and building numbers are coded correctly.
Weekly - 5%: Responsible for gathering and organizing data from college administrators to produce the yearly Capital Improvement Program Report (CIP) required by the State for PECO appropriations. Prepares reports according to DOE/SREF guidelines, produces and calculates budgets for new construction and remodeling projects. Coordinates with college administrators to develop a college wide facilities plan and the development of college wide priorities for new construction, remodeling and renovation projects.
Annually -2%: Prepares the State Educational Plant Survey, including preparation of state required planning documents.
Daily - 9%: Coordinates and manages all personnel moves with College users, Facilities Management, Physical plant, Telecommunications and outside vendors associated with the new construction/remodeling projects
Weekly - 5%: Organizes the development and implementation of College Wide furniture standards
Daily -2%: Reviews and approves all college wide purchase requisitions entered for the procurement of furniture and minor equipment.
Weekly - 7%: Reviews submitted design documents for compliance with State Requirements for Educational Facilities ( SREF)
Monthly - 1%: Participates in the Sustainability Committee to utilize information when purchasing eco-friendly products.
Annually - 2%: Prepares Presidential Transmittals or Board Transmittals for College wide furniture purchases
Other - 2%: Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in development and execution of project plans and delivery of results.
Requires application of professional theories to conduct analytical/problem-solving and technical skills.
Strong understanding of project implementation lifecycle. Exceptional written and verbal communication capabilities in both individual and team settings.
Knowledge of local and state building codes, SREF, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Requires ability to multi-task. Working knowledge of the design and construction process.
Ability to read and understand construction documents. Expertise in commercial grade furniture design and specifications.
Follow state procurement methods, procedures and requirements Ability to manage and coordinate with College approved vendors.
Ability to develop programming, space planning, and furniture layouts to code.
In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in area of specialization and general knowledge of related areas in the College
Ability to perform complex administrative analysis with limited supervision
Strong diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent coordination and communication skills used appropriately influence the decision-making of individuals and groups at all levels in the College
Ability to plan and manage own workflow, priorities and results accomplishment
Ability to coordinate large projects involving multiple staff across various disciplines and outside vendors.
Requires the ability to present and disseminate data to various levels
Requires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e. Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems - AutoCAD
Ability to exchange information and collaborate with colleagues and peers within the College
Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee and student population
