Job Profile Summary

Under general direction, this position is responsible for the coordination and administration of the Student Judicial Affairs at the college and related programs/projects as assigned within Student Services. Responsible for exercising initiative and judgment in advising and working with students, faculty and staff in student disciplinary matters and other assigned responsibilities. Acts as an investigator for assigned Title IX cases in either a primary or secondary role, provides district coordination of campus Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT).
This position requires an active presence throughout the college.

  

Minimum Education:

  • Master’s degree required.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Eight years of experience in a higher education environment in student conduct, conflict resolution, student services, law enforcement, or student housing.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a judicial hearing officer in a university/college setting or related university/college experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates, administers, and conducts prompt, fair, effective and equitable investigations and processing of all assigned allegations as they relate to violations of the Student Code of Conduct or Title IX/Discrimination on each of the Broward College campuses.
  • Develops comprehensive investigative reports for review by the Dean of Students at the respective campus with involved parties for use in determining whether a violation has occurred.
  • Serving as the College’s Title IX Coordinator, reviews, evaluates and oversees allegations of Student Code of Conduct or Title IX from students, faculty and staff. Ensures all aspects of Title IX compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with College policies, procedures and relevant laws.
  • Develops and recommends appropriate sanctions for those found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct that ensures educational outcomes and compliance with sanctions by the responsible party.
  • Assists departments, faculty, staff and students in responding to possible violations of College rules, regulations and policies via the Student Judicial system.
  • Represents the College at student disciplinary hearings to include pre-hearing conferences with students, faculty, staff and others as appropriate.
  • Remains current with knowledge of laws and compliance regulations related to Title IX, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), FERPA, due process rights and other federal, state and local laws.
  • Assists with the delivery of outreach activities related to Title IX, student code of conduct and general campus safety.
  • Provides district coordination and training to the campus Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT) and serves on the (BIT) for each campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Strong managerial and team building skills, and demonstrated ability to motivate and empower direct and indirect reports to achieve area priorities
  • Ability to diagnose, plan and manage resource requirements for own area, including staffing, budgets, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to partner with others across the College and externally to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc.
  • Ability to influence others of the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to reach mutual points of agreement and benefit among peers and colleagues
