Job Description Summary:

Responsible to prepare and deliver Fashion Design coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Job Description:

Current Work of the Department/Discipline

The Fashion Design program offers students an Associate of Applied Science in Fashion Design in the Business Area of Study as well as a Level 1 Certificate. The program, located at Highland Campus, trains students to operate industrial equipment. The department is committed to the fostering of student knowledge, skills and training.Teamwork and professional development is required in the department.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of Fashion Design to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.

  • Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures in the Fashion Design classrooms at Highland Campus.

  • Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.

  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.

  • Remain current in the Fashion Industry and the teaching profession through a variety of professional development activities.

  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.

Technology

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.

  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

Qualities of a Successful Candidate

The ideal candidates have demonstrable skills, professional experience, and ability to participate in the following areas:

  • Experience using Industrial sewing equipment required

  • Professional Pattern Making Experience is recommended

  • Fashion Industry experience is preferred

  • Teaching experience is preferred

  • Strong skills in sewing construction techniques, pattern making and draping

Principal Professional Standards

  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.

  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.

  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.

  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

  • Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.

Required Education

Educational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, or Merchandising Home Economics (with relevant concentration) or Marketing; or

  • Associate degree in one of these disciplines and 3 years non-teaching work experience

No substitution for educational requirements.

Preferred Work Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of industry related non-teaching work experience.

Qualities of a Successful Candidate

  • Fashion Industry experience is preferred

  • Teaching experience is preferred

  • Strong skills in sewing construction techniques, pattern making and draping

  • Willing to build on the successful syllabus currently in place
