Position Summary
The Department of Health-Related Professions is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position to manage and teach in the Funeral Services Program. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the Funeral Services Program including curriculum, assessment and evaluation, supervision of faculty, and compliance with accreditation standards. The successful applicant will work closely with the Health-Related Professions Department Chair and other faculty and staff to ensure the program provides optimal results for the needs of the students, college, and community needs.
Organizational Relationship
The Program Director will report directly to the Health-Related Professions Department Chair. Program directors are full-time members of the academic faculty at CSN. Program Directors work with students, other faculty, other program directors, ESHS Dean, classified staff, other administrative staff, vice-presidents, and community leaders.
Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage all aspects of the Funeral Services program to meet CSN, Engelstad School of Health Sciences, and Program mission and goals.
Maintain compliance with all American Board of Funeral Service Education Standards.
Prepares reports, self-studies for accreditation, and facilitates site visits.
Advise students.
Instruct funeral services didactic courses, laboratories, and supervises students on clinical rotations.
Maintain student records, i.e., grades, attendance, exams, assignments, competencies, etc.
Develops and maintains affiliation sites for student placements.
Conducts ongoing assessment and evaluation of the program to achieve program learning outcomes.
Creates, maintains, and coordinates a program advisory committee to monitor and support the activities of the program.
Participates in program budget process.
Maintain current knowledge of funeral services practices and techniques through continuing professional development.
Participates in program, department, school, and college-wide committees.
Assignments may be multi-campus with the possibility of day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
Additional related duties include academic advising, curriculum development, and service to the institution and community.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an ABFSE accredited program
Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university earned within 5 years of the date of the initial appointment in funeral service education
Possess a valid license to practice as a funeral service professional in Nevada
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in the funeral industry.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous teaching experience in funeral services.
Previous teaching experience in higher education.
Experience teaching and/or working with a diverse/multicultural student body and/or workforce.
Experience with curriculum development.
Starting Salary Range
Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master’s degree, the salary range would be $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89,166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years’ experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.
